Counseling for women in Pennsylvania who want to be their best version of a parent
NAVIGATING PARENTHOOD

When a baby is born, so is a mother.

You are expecting or just had a baby. Now what? Where do I go from here?

Very few things are as transformative as preparing for and experiencing pregnancy, parenthood or both.

It's requiring aspects of ourselves that we didn’t even realize we possessed, pushing us to grow in ways we may not have been prepared for or expected.

So often we feel overwhelmed, inadequate, pressured and like what we do is never enough. It can be a lonely and disheartening experience, but you don’t have to do it alone.

Whether you are a birth parent, adopted parent, bonus parent or caregiver of any kind, your feelings are valid and giving yourself space to share and problem solve can be a transformative and healing process.

Therapy can help you:
Feel seen and supported in the shifting of identity, sleep, routines, etc
Develop a compassionate and healthy sense of self in this new identity as a parent
Learn to shift automatic reactions or behaviors
Understand, accept and allow the daily emotional ups and downs
Identify postpartum depression or anxiety and find solutions for perinatal challenges
Learn to self soothe and coach yourself through difficulties
Choose partners intentionally and consciously and not based on unhealed attachment wounds

FAQs

Here are the answers to the most commonly asked questions.

Do you accept insurance?

I am an out-of-network provider which means that you may be able to receive partial reimbursement depending on your plan and benefits. I offer monthly super bills for you to submit for insurance reimbursement.

What is a “good faith estimate?”

On January 1, 2022, congress enacted a "No Surprises Act", which is a "new federal protection against surprise medical bills that take effect in 2022. Surprise medical bills arise when insured consumers inadvertently receive care from out-of-network hospitals, doctors, or other providers they did not choose". Under the law, healthcare providers, including mental health providers, must give clients who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for services.

What are the reasons why you do not work with insurance companies?

Insurance requires a diagnosis (we do not believe in clients needing a diagnosis unless requested) and can impact life insurance policies, etc.

Insurance can limit how many sessions you can have with your therapist.

Insurance can dictate when and where sessions take place, and conditions (phone, video, etc).

What are the questions to ask my insurance company for out-of-network therapy support?

Do I have a deductible to reach prior to my out-of-network benefits taking effect? If so, what is my out-of-network deductible?

Do I need approval from my primary care provider prior to setting an appointment with the therapist of my choosing in order to get reimbursed for services?

Once my deductible is met from out-of-network services, what percentage of the therapist’s session fee is covered by my plan?

Can you send me, or direct me to the link online, where I can obtain the form necessary to submit for reimbursement for my out-of-network services?

Specialties

Maternal Wellness

The journey of becoming a parent is a significant developmental life-stage.

It can evoke powerful emotions, changes in relationships, and questions about oneself.

It is an all-encompassing experience that is filled with incredible joys, but also baffling contradictions and challenges.

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy

I guide and support clients who are open to exploring their values and what can motivate healthy change and/or simply learn to sit with emotion and engage with it differently.

When appropriate, I may integrate humor, creative metaphors when skill building, and compassionate framing around discussed challenges. The past is viewed with empathy and understanding to better live in the present.

Mindful Self Compassion

I have specialized training in Dr. Kristin Neff's Mindful Self Compassion Institute, which serves as an important foundation as I build a safe, caring, and workable therapeutic relationship with you.

This mindful self-compassion orientation is complemented by active/creative skill-building techniques and healthy management of emotions in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

Life Transitions

Making decisions, experiencing life transitions or changesin career, relationships, movement into adulthood can be tough!  Building inner resilience tools to stayflexible and adaptive, caring for yourself amidst change or 'unseasonableweather periods of life' are essential.

Instead of focusing solely on external goals, we will venture within. You have inner resources and wisdom to anchor upon and live in a deeply personal, value-driven, core ‘knowing.’ You desire to move from surviving and into thriving and fuller acceptance of life and its unpredictable changes.

about me

Hi, I'm Leah.

As a mother, I know how challenging  and confusing it can be to transition into the new phase of life that involves a beloved child. It's often a period of highs and lows, where you may feel like the love for your child is like carrying your heart on the outside of your body and at the same time you may miss your "old" life.

I have made it my mission to support women through the wonderful and  complex process of motherhood.  I am so passionate about providing therapy for mothers who need a safe, non-judgmental space to process the changes in lifestyle, identity, and so much more in the postpartum seasons.

To specifically cater to parents, I have been trained through Postpartum Support International and in my sessions, I incorporate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and tools from Dr. Kristin Neff's Mindful Self Compassion Institute.

If you're a mother in need of support - let's connect.
